Fietscongres 2026: Driving the Future of Urban Cycling Logistics

The Fietscongres 2026, held on June 2 at the historic Bosuilstadion in Antwerp under the banner “Iedereen op de fiets” (Everyone on the Bike), broke away from the traditional, rigid conference format to deliver a vibrant cycling festival. Bringing together 275 mobility professionals, policymakers, and advocates, the event transformed the stadium into a buzzing hub of innovation. Attendees stepped out of the classic seminar rooms to engage with 19 interactive information stands, experience live outdoor cycling excursions, and listen to a keynote presentation delivered directly from the stadium stands. The energetic atmosphere perfectly matched the festival’s core mission: finding collaborative ways to make daily cycling safer, more inclusive, and naturally attractive for everyone.

A major highlight of the day was the dedicated focus on urban freight and smart city solutions. The Belgian Cycle Logistics Federation (BCLF) took center stage in an inspiring session alongside Claire Schelfhout from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), shedding light on the rapid professionalization and economic necessity of the cycle logistics sector. This paired perfectly with complementary programming from organizations like Scelta Mobility—who presented the stadium’s own event transport plan emphasizing bicycle priority—and the Province of Limburg’s showcase of the F74 bicycle highway. By weaving together high-level research, grassroots advocacy, and practical examples, the event successfully proved that “everyone on the bike” applies just as much to urban delivery and commercial freight as it does to everyday commuters.
