On the 1st and 2nd of October, our team attended the International Cycling Summit (CIE), an event that brings together major players in the cycling industry across Europe to discuss sustainable mobility and innovation. The summit served as a unique opportunity to connect with key stakeholders and celebrate the latest advancements in cycling policy.
One of the key achievements highlighted at CIE was the EU Cycling Declaration, an ambitious and concrete commitment led by Belgium to promote cycling across Europe. The declaration’s adoption marks a significant milestone for the entire cycling ecosystem, including manufacturing, infrastructure, and service industries.
During the event, we had the opportunity to speak with George Gilkinet, Belgian Minister for Mobility, who emphasized the strategic importance of cycling for sustainable transportation. Additionally, Filip Boelaert, Secretary General for the Department of Mobility and Public Works in Flanders, reinforced the need for more space for bicycles. He shared that Flanders invests at least 300 million euros annually in cycling infrastructure, showcasing the region’s commitment to safe and accessible cycling.
We also learned that the global mobility market is expected to triple by 2035, with e-bikes and Europe leading this growth. Revenue in the mobility sector is projected to increase by 9% annually by 2030, and in Belgium, the cycling economy is expanding at twice the rate of the broader economy.
CIE, which represents cycling businesses at the EU level, aims to double the use of bicycles in Europe by 2030 and create 1 million green and sustainable jobs within the cycling ecosystem. With members ranging from SMEs to global companies, CIE is a crucial voice for the industry, advocating for the benefits of cycling for mobility, recreation, and economic development.
We’re grateful to have participated in such an inspiring event and connected with so many industry leaders. Looking forward to building on this momentum—see you next year at the next CIE Summit!
